314. A rare and unusual Karabagh Caucasian

Antique Karabagh Caucasian Rug

314. Provenance: Karabagh, Southern Genje, Caucasus

Size: 290 x 140 cm

Age: Circa 1920

Condtion: Wear in field. Some fading (one colour only) at one end. Some repairs/reweaves other end.

Notes: Very unusual to see the use of animals to this extent. The central, joined medallions contain interesting versions of the 'boteh' (predecessor of our 'Paisley' pattern), which some see as a flame, some as a teardrop. The rug's palette is also interesting - natural indigo, madder, but also the use of a rather 'loud' orange.

Price: $1495
