82. Provenance: Kazak, South Caucasus
Age: Circa 1900
Condition: Very good, with just small patches of lower pile.
Design: Prayer rug. A rigid take on the Karabagh floral major border. ‘Animal head’ motif (Stone, p219). Central rectangular medallion, and a 'mirhab' (very unusually) at each end (Gans-Ruedin, p99).
Colour & materials: All natural dyes. Strong and clear. Lovely blues. Hand-spun wool pile on wool foundation.
