727. a fascinating antique Caucasian rug
727. Provenance: Kazak village area (?), Georgia/Armenia, The Caucasus
Age: Circa 1900
Size: 244 x 133 cm
Condition: Generally good for its age. Overall low pile with heavier in the centre. Some colour change from one tip to the other.
Notes: A beautiful antique piece full of vibrant natural dyestuffs. The design incorporates a repeat of stylized flower - almost cruciform in their execution - which could suggest Armenian (Christian) weaving. The border is particularly pleasing, and the 'elim'-like ends are very unusual.
