514. a magnificent antique Beshir Turkoman torba
514. Provenance: Beshir subtribe, Ersari Turkoman tribe, northern Afghanistan or southern Central Asia
Size: 173 x 52 cm
Age: Circa 1920
Condition: Good.
Notes: This torba would originally have had a plainweave back, and would have hung from the yurt or tent wall, and used for storage of clothes or implements. This piece uses natural dyes, particularly madder red, and indigo, and as is common with Beshir weavings uses yellow quite extensively. A delightful piece of tribal woven history.
