523. Provenance: Ersari tribe, Turkoman weaving group, Northern Afghanistan

Age: Circa 1920
Condition: Very good. Missing it's orginal plainweave back, and now an ideal size to serve as a floor rug.
Notes: A highly unusual, very large Afghan 'juval' or yurt storage bag, this is covered in an assortment of border-style motifs (interlocking leaves, stars, cruciforms), and includes comb motifs on the sides and 'trees-of-life' in the elem. Lovely warm madder red-brown natural colouring with highlights in indigo. A rare and enchanting piece of tribal art.
