671. a vibrant antique Lesghi Caucasian rug
671. Provenance: Lesghi (Leshkey), Shirvan, The Caucasus
Size: 250 x 133 cm
Age: Circa 1920
Condition: Very good for age.
Notes: Vigorous colouring, with bold use of an analine orange, as well as more subtle natural dyes such as indigo (in various alluring shades). The inner-outer Lesghi Star motif is a sort of rectangular versian of the Chelaberd Alder Eagle, and is used to good effect in this piece (they can be somewhat 'muddy' depending on colour use). Great hand-spun wool, and a wealth of tribal motifs, and even animals. A lovely, collectable piece.
