640. Provenance: Ersari tribe, Northern Afghanistan

Size: 270 x 238 cm

Age: Circa 1900

Condition: Largely good for age, with allover low pile. Repairs & damage to kilim ends (though often these are entirely missing by this time). One coin-sized re-weave in field.

Notes: Gorgeous and classic antique Ersari 'elephant foot' carpet, with a most entrancing abrush (natural variation in tone of the pile due to variations in the dyestuffs or more often, changes in absorptancy of the hand-spun wool). Don't mistake this for one of the dull, modern, pillarbox-red Afghan recreations!
