348. An exquisite Northwest Persian Runner
348. Provenance: Azerbaijan, probably on the Persian side
Age: Circa 1900
Size: 282 x 116 cm
Condition: Generally good for its age, but some damage to the corners, and losses at ends.
Notes: A lovely runner covered in 'botehs' (the precursor of the famouse Paisley teardrop shape), and saved from monotony by the variations in colouring and drawing. The design shares many similarities with Caucasian rugs from Azerbaijan proper, Georgia etc. but being constructed on a cotton foundations suggests a Persian origin. All natural dyes.
