827. a mesmerising antique Kazak Caucasian tribal gu
827. Provenance: Kazak village area, northern Armenia, The Caucasus
Size: 236 x 130 cm
Age: Circa 1920
Condition: Very good for age.
Notes: A fine antique Kazak, with simply beautiful natural colours (see the number of shades of indigo), and abrush (the natural variation in colouring due to differences in absorbency of yarn spools and/or differing dye batches). The three cruciform medallions are well spaced and surounded by vairous tribal motifs. The piece is signed & dated by the weaver, and I believe it says 1341 which in the Islamic calendar would be 1922. All wool tribal construction.
