716. an audacious antique Kazak Caucasian
716. Provenance: Tabriz, Northwest Persia
Size: 210 x 124 cm
Age: Circa 1900
Condition: Good for age with overall lowish pile.
Notes: An exemplary tribal piece, with all the naive, almost child-like requisites of a Caucasian weaving at its best. Simple human and animal figures intersperced with more abstract heraldic motifs, sprinkled (but not too densely) around four main, serated diamond medalions. The border itself is a thing of great beauty. Highly collectable.
