585. a remarkable Kazak Caucasian tribal rug
585. Provenance: Kazak area, (very possibly Bordjalou), Georgia/Armenia, The Caucasus
Size: 210 x 115 cm
Age: Circa 1880
Condition: Good for age, with some wear to field.
Notes: An absolutely marvellous antique Kazak rug, with bold, primary natural dyes and an especially fine light green. Three 'latch-hook' repeating diamond medallions dominate, surrounded by a wealth of stylized flowereads, stars, animals and tribal motifs. A fine 'wine-glass' main border frames it all. This piece has all the primal, almost brutal tribal features for which these Caucasians are famed and highly-prized
