419. A glorious 'American' Sarouk Carpet

Sarouk Persian Carpet

419. Provenance: Sarouk, North of Arak, Northwestern Persia

Size: 360 x 264 cm

Age: Circa 1930

Condition: Very good.

Notes: A lovely and very popular design of detatched floral sprays. Sarouks had mostly been woven in 'medallion' designs, but in the 1920s and 1930s the design displayed in this piece, became hugely popular, particularly in the States. The colours also tended to become softer and more appealling to the 'western palette'. Asymmetrically ('Persian') knotted on blue cotton wefts.
