634. a robust Bijar Kurdish Persian rug

Bijar or Bidjar Kurdish Persian Rug

634. Provenance: Bijar, northwestern Iran

Size: 326 x 130 cm

Age: Circa 1970

Condition: Excellent, with rich deep pile.

Notes: A Bijar rug typical of its type, with a bold central medallion and matching corners, and an almost Herati-like design in the field. This would have been woven by the Gerrus Kurds, in the Bijar area, around 150 miles south of Tabriz. These rugs are extremely tough and durable and are known as the 'iron men' of Persia!
