769. a highly attractive antique Baluch prayer rug
769. Provenance: Baluch, Afghanistan (possibly Khorrossan, Eastern Persia)
Size: 90 x 160cm
Age: Circa 1920
Condition: Good for age. Kilim ends showing some wear, but often they are not present at all by this age.
Notes: A calming and attractive Baluchi prayer rug, featuring a repeat of a Turkoman-like tribal motif set within individual diamonds. Variations in colour and shade add depth and interest to the field. The border also contains motifs reminisent of Tekke pile weavings. Natural dyes, chief of which is the madder root. All wool construction, as are all true tribal rugs.
