568. an eminate antique Hamadan or northwest Perisan runner
568. Provenance: Hamadan or nearby, northwest Persia
Age: Circa 1920
Size: 310 x 105 cm
Condition: Good with only very minor, fully secured, losses at one end.
Notes: A really delightful runner, with a not-so-usual single, long medallion dominating the madder-red field. The indigo therewithin is lively and expressive, both in its intese hue, and in its natural abrush (minor colour variations resulting from slight changes in dye batches and in the density/apbsorption qualities of the handspun wool batches). The flowers in the field, stemming as they do from the medallion itsefl, are also unusual. The main border, with a running plant motif in a white ground, is less so, and is a classic of its kind, being especially common in nearby Serrabends. A hugely decorative and happy piece, not necessarily to be relegated to a corridor (how about at the foot of a double bed?).
