846. a magnetic Kurdish Bijar Persian rug

antique Kurdish Bijar Persian tribal rug

846. Provenance: Kurdish, Bijar, western Persia

Size: 204 x 127 cm

Age: circa 1930

Condition: Good, with minor spots of wear.

Notes: Really beautiful natural dyes in this Kurdish tribal woven piece from northwestern Persia. Not only are the colours numerous, but they work together in suprising harmony. The various shades of indigo are fantastic and the extensive use of undyed camel wool in the main border is highly effective as a frame for this intricate piece. On top of this, Bijars have excellent construction and are known as the 'iron men' of Persian rugs.
