372. A winning Antique Borujerd or Malayer Rug
372. Provenance: Borujerd or possibly Malayer villages, NW Persia
Size: 193 x 136 cm
Age: Circa 1920
Condition: Good, with minor loss at the ends.
Notes: Borujerd (one of numerous spelling options!) is a market centre for these rugs. Generally, with red designs on dark blue fields, they are single-wefted and use the symmetric (or 'Turkish') knot. This piece has a charmingly uneven central medallion, and the whole design is enriched by a wonderful light indigo blue running (often in 'arbrush') throughout it.
