864. an engaging Lori (Luri) Persian tribal rug
864. Provenance: Lori (Luri) tribe, southern central Persia
Size: 234 x 146 cm
Age: circa 1950
Condition: Good, with minor loss (fully secured) at ends.
Notes: Loris are never finely woven, sophisticated affairs, but their strengh lies in their naive, almost childike qualities. This features heavily stylised cross-sections of multi-headed, long-knecked birds (swans?) as well as peacocks and four-legged beasts, probably goats, but possibly dear. Simple, primary colouring lend ease to the eye. Reassuringly tribal!
