649. a delightful Yomut design Afghan rug

649. Provenance: Yomut design on possibly Ersari rug, Northern Afghanistan

Size: 174 x 113 cm

Age: Circa 1930

Condition: Good for age.

Notes:  A pretty unusual piece with the prominent Yomut 'dyrnak' serated gul. A typical almond leaf border surounds the main field. Despite the Yomut-influenced design this is more likely an Ersari weaving from Northern Afghanistan. The change in colouring (from blue to brown) is due to a change of dyestuff during the weaving - perhaps the weavers moved on to greener pastures and could not find a matching dye
