616. A well-bred antique European hunting carpet
616. Provenance: European, possibly Spanish
Size: 345 x 250 cm
Age: Circa 1920
Condition: Very good for age.
Notes: A glorious example of European weaving copying Persian (in this case largely Tabriz) style. This piece has a broad and wonderful palette of dyes and in design, it combines palmettes, flowers, and tendrils with unusual depictions reminiscent of Persian hunting carpets, showing deer being killed by wolves and lions. Old, and part of a long-gone Europe.
