386. An inspired Antique Qashqa'i Rug

386. Provenance: Qashqa'i Confederacy of Tribes, Fars Province, Southern Persia

Size: 155 x 110 cm

Age: Circa 1880

Condition: Good for age. Loss at one end.

Notes: A beautiful fully tribal design, full of stars, simplified flowerheads, 'botehs' and cruciform motifs, all executed in superb natual dyes. The woman who wove this had a keen artistic sense and great creativity. 'Qashqa'i' means 'fugitive' and these nomads were originally Turkomans from further north.
