279. A fine Antique Qashqa'i Tribal Rug

Antique Tribal Qashqa'i Persian Rug

279. Provenance: Qashqa'i Tribe, Fars Province, South West Persia

Size: 211 x 152cm

Age: Circa 1900

Condition: Very good for its age. Slight loss at ends which have been fully secured. The sides have been professionally repaired and the rug has been professionally washed, bringing out the glorious natural dyes.

Notes: The colours are strong and vivid natural dyes and the design is classic Qashqa'i - full of tribal motifs and quirky details, with a typical corner medallions. Lovely madder red/brown in the field and very attractive borders. Qashqa'i means 'fugitives' or 'those who fled' and these non-Persian tribes probably originated in Central Asia or Eastern Turkistan.
