815. a vital Bakhtiari Persian rug

An old Bakhtiari (or Malayer) Persian rug

815. Provenance: Bakhtiari tribe, southern Persia

Age: Circa 1940

Size: 300 x 135 cm

Condition: Good.

Notes: An unusual rug. The rough floral design and the bird motifs are certainly typical of many Bakhtiari tribal-inspired sedentary pieces. However, the 'running crab' motif in the main border is borrowed from the Caucasus, and is common in Lenkoran pieces. Wonderful dyes and a bright, vivid palette.
