878. a rare old Qum Persian rug
878. Provenance: Qum, or Ghom, central Iran
Size: 210 x 138 cm
Age: circa 1970
Condition: Very good. Slight curning of the sides.
Notes: A superb and finely woven piece, featuring an unusual all-over floral repeat, reminiscent of the Herati design, yet containing actual bunches of flowers. They have only been weaving extensively in Qum and surrounding area, for eighty years or so, but they are now justifiably celebrated for the finess of their rugs.
