398. A scintillating antique Qashqa'i storage bag
398. Provenance: Qashqa'i Confederacy of Tribes, Fars Province, Southern Persia
Size: 168 x 77 cm (86 x 77 piled).
Age: Circa 1880
Condition. Wear to the field. Loss at corners and sides. However, unusually for a trapping of this age, it still has its original plain weave back, as well as the elaborate kilim ends to both the piled section and the plainweave.
Notes: Such storage bags would have been used to store clothes or implements, and would have been hung from the sides of the yurt or tribal tent. This one has only natural dyes, and is packed with pure tribal motifs. Beautiful.
