832. a handsome old Malayer Persian carpet
832. Provenance: Malayer, western Persia
Size: 266 x 105 cm
Age: Circa 1930
Condition: Good, with just minor low pile.
Notes: An attractive and relatively unusual Malayer rug, with a stylized and almost geometric rendition of quite large flower heads (roses?), that bizarrely, is reminiscent of Behir Turkoman designs from thousands of miles east in Central Asia - a clear example of the flow of ideas, and design along the spice route (and elsewhere of course). No one lives in a bubble.
