929. a delicious old Ait Ouaouzguite tribal Moroccan rug
929. Provenance: Ait Ouaouzguite (High Atlas), Morocco
Age: circa 1930
Size: 146 x 130 cm
Condition: Very good for age. No issues.
Notes: A symmetrical design with cruciform patterns in pile surrounding four plainweave, undyed brown panels. Small details are also in slit-tapestry weave, so three different weave techniques are employed in its construction. Such pieces are woven by subtribes of the Ait Ouaouzguite, but are commonly known as 'Glaoua', a reference to the tribe that dominated the region prior to independence. All the colours in this piece appear to be natural, including the lovely, soft duck-egg blue.
