925. A sensational old Beshir main carpet
925. Provenance: Beshir, sub-tribe of Ersari, Turkoman, Northern Afghanistan or Turkmenistan
Age: Circa 1930
Size: 330 x 146 cm
Condition: Good for age, with just minor foldwear.
Notes: Hard-to-find main Beshir carpet. Distinctive all-over, almost Herati design, radiating out from a central medallion. These rugs are quite atypical of Turkoman tribal pieces, as they feature (albeit heavily geometricized) flowers, and have softer, less regimented aesthetics. Rich, madder red colouring in various shades. For the right (longer) space, this would make a striking impact.
