841. a comforting Mahal Persian rug

Mahal Persian rug

841. Provenance: Mahallat, Arak region, western Persia

Size: 205 x 154 cm

Age: Circa 1970

Condition: Very good.

Notes: Mahal rugs are woven in or near the western town of Mahallat, which lying between Arak and Dalijan, lies on the route of the nomadic tribal herders (and weavers) of southern Iran. They come in various designs and styles, but this piece is fairly typical of its type: welcoming warm shades, and an undemanding, almost homely floral design.
