437. an artistic old Shiraz or Qashqa'i Persian tribal rug
437. Provenance: Shiraz or Qashqa'i tribal, Fars Province, Persia
Size: 214 x 137 cm
Age: Circa 1940
Condition: Very good.
Notes: A rug full of styalized flowerheads, stars, and other purely tribal motifs. This isn't the most subtle tribal rug in the world but it exudes nomadic naivety and vivacity. Strong, confident colours indicate that this rug was conceived and woven with their own use in mind (or for sale to neighbouring people of similar taste!). Great, glossy hand-spun wool, in both pile and foundation.
