368. An impertinent old Isphahan Rug
368. Provenance: Isphahan, Central Persia
Size: 214 x 135 cm
Age: Circa 1950
Condition: Very good.
Notes: Once the capital of Persia, under Shah Abbas and his Safavid successors, Isphahan has long been famed for its rug-weaving. Post-WW2 very fine rugs with the designs of the Safavid period were woven here. This intricate floral medallion rug is very tightly woven in the assymmetric 'Persian' knot, using strong, vivid dyestuffs. A lovely piece.
