311. A wonderful old Afghan Charshango Rug
311. Provenance: Charshango subtribe, Ersari tribe, Northern Afghanistan
Size: 210 x 140 cm
Age: Circa 1930
Condtion: Very good. Very minor patches of lower pile.
Notes: This tribe inhabits the area either side of the Amu Darya in Turkestan and N. Afghanistan. Their rugs are pretty hard to find, as they are less common than the Turkoman 'elephant foot' octagonal gul. Lovely madder red field, and a limited but harmonious, peaceful palette.
