191. Provenance: Ersari Tribe, Turkoman, Northern Afghanistan

Age: Circa 1950
Condition: Generally excellent, with just a couple of tiny re-weaves.
Notes: The 'ensi' or 'hatchelu' Turkoman rugs were originally woven doors and would hang over the entrance to the nomad's tent, and would be smaller than this one. This design proved so popular that it was adopted in larger rugs bound for floors and walls. Lustrous wool and rich colouring.
