854. Provenance: Baluch, Khorassan, eastern Persia

Size: 187 x 102 cm

Age: circa 1900

Condition: Corrosion of the dark browns (common in many tribals, particularly Baluch). Some damage to corner.

Notes: A quite common design in old and anitque Baluch prayer rugs, with the rather understated desing being enlivened by the judicious use of vibrant indigo blue. The corrosion in the natural dark brown dye is very common in old Baluch (and other rugs using this dye), and creates a somwhat sculptured relief.
