Antique Kazak Caucasian Rug

669. Provenance: Kazak village region, Armenia/Georgia, The Caucasus

Size: 254 x 150 cm

Age: Circa 1900

Condition: Mostly very good. One end has one reweave and one small area of damage.

Notes: Superb bold, almost aggressive colouring for which these fine antique Kazaks are famed. Natural dyes throughout, and glossy, soft hand-spun Karakul wool. An interesting and unusual pine-tree-like border motif. Two dominant field medallions with a wealth of tribal heraldic motifs and emblems within and surrounding. A collector's piece.
