701. Provenance: Heriz, Persian Azerbaijan, NW Persia

Age: Circa 1930

Size: approx 386 x 296 cm

Condition: Mostly excellent. Some wear to back.

Notes: This old Heriz is typical of its genre in that it uses only the best natural dyestuffs and superb hard-wearing yarn. The construction is massive with heavy cotton wefts and warps. Although the weave is coarse in these Heriz's they are excellent carpets. Nowhere else do carpets this coarse have such a good construction or so much individuality of design and colouring. The pseudo-geometric floral design shows it's village origins, yet it is understated and elegant, not overly busy.
