501. a striking antique Karadja Persian rug
501. Provenance: Karadja, Persian Azerbaijan, NW Persia
Size: 220 x 157 cm approx
Age: Circa 1910
Condition: Good for its age. Very minor losses at ends, fully and professionally secured.
Notes: Lovely 'three-medallion' tribal design, bearing many similarities with Caucasian rugs across the northwestern border of Persia. Unlike most of its Caucasian cousins though, this rug is woven on cotton foundations, ensuring that it sits flat and even on any floor. The colours are magnificent - particularly the eggshell indigo blue and the rare saffron/indigo-mix green. Archaic tribal motifs abound in the field.
