330. A startling Antique Kurdish Rug
330. Provenance: Kurdish tribes, North West Persia
Age: Circa 1890
Size: 280 x 139 cm
Condition: Very good for age. Lowish pile. Some minor loss at ends.
Notes: Really excellent natural colouring make this an exceptionally fine rug. Shades of vibrant indigo, a wonderful indigo/saffron green, rich madder red, and even the 'apricot' orange is soft and vegetal. The hooked diamond motifs throughout are classic Kurdish, but it is always hard to definitively ascribe such NW Persian rugs to specific villages/tribes.
