857. an enigmatic old Hamadan (?) persian rug

857. Provenance: Hamadan, western Persia

Size: 190 x 130 cm

Age: circa 1960

Condition: Good with recently repaired and secured sides.

Notes: A really lovely looking rug, with wonderful rich natural colours. The weave is somewhat erratic and foundation tension is also somewhat variable - perhaps it was woven by a learner, or was a training project (mother and daughter?). It retains a remarkable naivity and purity of drawing, which does perhaps hint at a youngish weaver.
