247. Provenance: Ersari Tribe, Turkoman group, Afghanistan

Age: Circa 1920

Condition: Excellent.

Notes: An unusual 'gul' dominates the field, with only one more well-known 'Tekke' gul at the head of the carpet. In terms of colour, natural madder dominates, but there are lovely touches of light indigo blue. Flexible weave with supple handle and soft, hand-spun wool.
